I do agree it would be less of a hurdle to get people
to adopt OpenACS if it ran in apache and it would vastly
increase the availability of cheap hosting (I think it would
at least), but yeah, unless it works well and someone funds
the work I doubt it would happen.
Maybe it's something dotlrn could put out an rfp for and see
where people would be willing to do it. I could guess at
$'s for doing this but I am thinking its a 4-6 month project
to get it to the point where you could run production sites
with it. Otoh, I have not looked at it since aD days and
it's certainly getting easier with the changes made to
modularize aolserver.
