I may be wrong, but isn't there an easy way to using Apache as the web listener to the world and Aolserver as the rest? (even if apache did a simple redirect).
Yeah, why would anyone want to do this from a technical standpoint -- but if the political issue is "we must use apache" that might be a solution.
I beleive we did this once at ArsDigita - not the mod_aolserver stuff - that was unbearably slow with just one user.
