Andrew is thinking what I was thinking when I made these source RPMS. Let the community compile the source RPMS for Linux distributions that the community is interested in. Then make the binary packages available as apt and yum repositories.
I don't know about apt repositories, but a yum repository is trivial to setup. The repository can be made available via FTP or HTTP. Using the latter makes more sense for a HTTP centric community like OpenACS. Adding download statistics, RSS feeds of package updates, etc to openacs.org are easily accomplished.
So have at it!
