Forum OpenACS Q&A: Call for help with new OpenACS.org

Hey guys,

Now that the bboard problem is almost fixed (and we should all hail Don Baccus for that), it's time to get the new OACS (http://openacs.museatech.net) site ready for launch. The pieces that need help are:

  • The Software section (http://openacs.museatech.net/sw/) needs to be built so that it's easy for people to view which modules are available and how to download them, how to access CVS and all other items related to getting the OACS.

  • The scripts to migrate the bboard posts from OACS 3.x to OACS4 have been written by Musea's own Dave Hill (thanks a bunch, Dave) and at least a couple of people have been using them for scalability testing (DonB and Andrew Spencer as of today). So we should have some pretty good tools to move all the content. Nevertheless, we need some volunteers to tune those scripts since I'm not sure they are completely finished, and then some volunteers to make sure the data was migrated correctly. For those of you who want to get experience migrating data from one system to the next, this is your chance!

  • Currently, the news section (http://openacs.museatech.net/news) is built using the ETP news package. It's been correctly requested that the OACS news section use the News package so that non-admins can post news items that will go into an adminsitrators queue. This should be a pretty easy thing to do. But need a volunteer for it.
If you are interested, please email me at talli@museatech.net

thanks.

Hi Talli,

The news module for postgres has been completely ported by Robert Locke.  Just get it from CVS. We have been using the news module and so far no show stopper problems.

I do have one more round of bboard speeding up I want to put in place this weekend (and this will be my last change before beta except for bug fixes).  It is actually fast enough now for us to use but I want to fix it once and for all while my head's into the whole performance issue.  This last round of speed-ups will help both the Oracle and PG versions.

But I think folks can start working on the test site again at any time.  BBoard's no longer the show-stopper it was earlier on.
