Forum OpenACS Q&A: Evaluation (grade book?) version 2 beta ready for testing

Evaluation v. 2.0 beta is now ready for testing.

New features:
- Oracle suport (tested with oracle10g)
- Use of the new Tcl CR Api

Plus a lot of bugs fixes and improvements to the code

Please feel free to try it (you can download it from HEAD), and report any bug. There will be a test server soon at http://strauss.gast.it.uc3m.es, you can try the evaluation package there too.

Also, there is a discussion about the name of the package (http://dotlrn.org/dotlrn/clubs/assessment2/forums/message-view?message_id=84663), and I would like to hear the opinion of the people that is currently using the evaluation package. Pleas take a look to the thread. The idea is to change its name to "grade book", but this implies a lot of changes not only to the code but also to the database(upgrade scripts will have to be done). Another option is to change the package name just in CVS and some pretty names to "grade book(s)", and leave the code and the database with the "evaluation" name(an add an explanation note, or something). The last option would be to leave the name as it is now, but I think it is too abstract. Please let me know what you think.

Jose Pablo

First and foremost question: Is it compatible with .LRN 2.1? Other than that, sounds great, looking forward to test it out. And yes, I'd opt for gradebook as the package and pretty name, but keep everything else in line with evaluation (foremost don't rename procedures or database tables).
Thanks for your quick feedback, I think that's the way to go about the package name, but anyway I want to wait for any other comments.

And yes, it is compatible with .LRN 2.1, let me know if you find any bugs.

It is compatible to oacs 5.1.4 or .5 (what you need is the CR TCL API) and with .LRN 2.1.
It seems to work on the upgrade that I made on postgresql, don't fear if you upgrade :).
