Forum OpenACS Development: Response to Status update ... will there ever be a beta or final release?

Maybe I am mistaken, but the idea of a Win32 port is very unattractive to me.  It means resources will be diverted to supporting a platform that just isn't that good.

You can run a decent OpenACS installation on hardware that any Windows-using corporation or school will be discarding this year.  Corporate edicts can get quite flexible when you are using castoff hardware that costs nothing.

Further, for education, OpenACS runs pretty much out of the box on MacOSX.

The argument against Unix-only was much stronger a few years ago.

Nowadays, I would think that people would be ashamed to admit that they didn't have the ability to either run the system themselves or find someone who could.
