Hi,

I would like to write a java portlet for a university portal solution which shows the (personalized) user (students) which of his courses has new information (files, forum discussions, announcements, ...). For this I assume, I have to write a small piece of code running on the dotlrn-Server monitoring ...yes, monitoring what? Where can I detect e.g. that new files have been uploaded or new forum entry is available? Sure, I can get these notifications via email but I would like to have some portlet solution.

Any ideas are very welcome!

Is the "university portal solution" uPortal? If so, then I believe there are other folks working on general integration already.

No, actually we have the java-based "Liferay"-Portal in mind (http://www.liferay.com).
