Forum .LRN Q&A: Trying to Upgrade to 2.1.1

I am still at it (from the post on Changing Machines). And still unsuccessful.

I am running dotLRN 2.0.x on FC3. I have installed 2.1.1 on a much better machine (Dell 2850) with FC3 and I want to migrate the data over. However, the fields and tables do not match. I have looked at the two dbs and found that they are quite dissimilar.

I've tried upgrading 2.0.x on the old machine but, using the admin/apm directory, the message I got was that no packages needed upgrading. I even tried untarring 2.1.1 into the old machine's directory but there was no love there.

I have found some scripts, some advice about upgrading ACS, but none of it seems relevant or particularly comprehensible.

What do I need to do to upgrade this so I can migrate data from 2.0.x to 2.1.1? I have been working on this for days.

What are you trying to accomplish?

You don't INSTALL dotlrn 2.1.1 and then try to somehow import your old data into it.

For postgresql you pg_dump the database on the old machine, then restore it on the new machine into an empty database.

Then you can try running the upgrade to 2.1.1.
