Not just easier to maintain on Win32, but IIRC easier to support the many front-end web servers that people use on both *nix and Windows. Netscape/Apache/IIS all support FastCGI, and there's a Java module as well (which would presumably play well with the app server crowd).
Ultimately, you could replace mod_aolserver and the isapi filter with this code-base.
