Hi
I want to install the ecommerce module and the first thing I
read on the Setup page is that it needs Oracle 8i. I am working with
Postgre and I know some of these documents are not current. Can we
install with postgres?
Thanks

Luis, the ecommerce module works with both Oracle and PostgreSQL. The documentation of the current version is a bit behind. However, I'm finishing a new much improved version of the ecommerce package and would advice to hold of deployment of the current version. The new version will be released this month, if possible with the release of OpenACS 4.5.

The new version of the ecommerce package will:

  • Be more stable, having fixed many bugs and logged tons of testing.
  • Include up-to date documentation.
  • Accept various credit card gateways instead of the obsolete CyberCash.
  • Accept various shipping rules in addition to the ecommerce shipping rules.
  • Handle goods that don't require shipping more gracefully.
  • Collect both the shipping address and the billing address.

Brian, I'm waiting for the Payment Service Contract to be released. Should be soon though.
