I am assuming you mean the dotLRN admin password, not the password for the box.
I'm late for a meeting with a student, so I can not look up all the details right now, but you can go into the database and change the password by hand. It takes a little fiddling since the passwords are stored encrypted, but it's not too hard to figure out.
