Forum OpenACS Development: Response to Sub-package site nodes API thought

To enable browser cloning we could follow Lars's suggestion and issue an id on every request. It was my understanding that this id would simply map to a list of url/context bar name pairs (this is the information needed to create the context bar). However, Lars writes:

"The only thing I can think of to shorten the URLs somewhat is to encode the site_node/intra-package-node info into one short (integer?) ID, and to encode the names of the parameters being passed in some similar way. We definitely need some kind of encoding here, since many pages can use the same parameter names."

What is meant by "encoding parameter names" here? I'm probably missing something, maybe Lars could elaborate a bit further on this...?
