Forum OpenACS Q&A: Guidance - what would you do if you if you were a new user?

What are the similarities and differences between Redhat's CCM and
OACS 4.5?  What are the pros/cons of each?  If you were a newbie
starting out now, what would you do regarding the dilemma of which
camp to go with? How much java/tcl is involved in doing development
for either? Are the architectures of both CCM and OACS 4.5 similar
in any way?  Architecturally, OACS 4.5 seems pretty well thought
out since it is agnostic to 2 databases(postgresql and Oracle),
whereas CCM works only with Oracle. Am I wrong about this as being
one of the advantages to choose OACS 4.5 over CCM, specially since
postgresql is free?

Does Redhat CCM have an e-commerce module?

Thanks for any input you provide.

Helen

Check out this thread .... a couple points though,

  • CCM currently only has CMS module
  • PostgreSQL port is supposed to be on its way.
  • CCM does not use aolserver but tomcat/resin and apache
  • CCM is (on my small dev box) a lot slower than openACS
