Forum OpenACS Q&A: intranet for online brokerage

I will probably be able to present OACS at a German online brokerage
company next week. Actually they are a "multi-channel" brokerage, but
that's marketing...

They want to build an intranet for their ~200 employees and I just
wanted to check if anybody has experience with

a.) intranets in general (best practices - crazy ideas permitted)

b.) brokerage companies and their internal needs (I also thought about
some eLearning integration...)

c.) what 4.5 packages would fit best for an intranet

Thanks

c.) calendar, contact management/address book, ? something for time tracking, file-storage, ? modified ticket tracker/action request system, offer forum but don't be shocked if they don't want them.

b.) Brokers are sometimes afraid other brokers will poach their clients. Figure out different ways to set up inheriting and non-inheriting permissions. My guess is that you will need to set up some interesting hierarchies for who can see what information.

a) The ACS 3.5 intranet has some interesting points. Start with employees with a special portal just for them. Small blurb of other employees with picture on the front page. Customer Relationship management (keeping a contact journal, view what project the customer is engaged in). Projekt work in general with time tracking (maybe room for integration with some gant chart packages). Many more. But as Cynthia said, dont expect them to fall for most of it. But most of the people I met liked the photo idea 😊.
