I know a couple of you have gone down the road to use assessment to store user information given upon registration in a structured way. I would like to encourage you to abstain from doing this with information about a user that is better stored in a CRM environment. This boils down to all contact information but may extend to any information about a user that you need to store and there won't be multiple values for it for the user.

We are going to integrate contacts into the registration process of OpenACS and therefore .LRN. Depending on the groups (which may or may not be .LRN groups) a user is signing up for, you can collect additional information about the user.

Details will follow, just a headsup and the hope to prevent others from writing custom code to deal with contact information from users e.g. by extending the users table or use assessment to store that information. Timeline: Middle of March.
