Forum OpenACS Development: Aolserver Memory Leak?

Collapse
Posted by MaineBob OConnor on
We are using: AOLserver/4.0.10

And last night, forum alerts stopped
and the log showed:

Error Attempt to send From alerts@.....
  {my message text}
failed
Error: couldn't fork child process: not enough memory
Also, photo uploads did not work.

I did a server-restart and it all worked again.
(old alerts were lost, all new alerts after
the restart were sent properly.

This appears to be a memory leak.
We are using: Single AMD Opteron 246 2.0 GHz and 2 Gig DDR memory.

It was suggested that we do a daily server-restart.

Is this a known issue that remains unsolved
and therefore daily restarts are the best answer
for now?

If so, what is the best method to do this
automatic restart at say, 4am.

Thanks,

-Bob

Thanks Orzenil,

I checked that link and it said:

"What version of Tcl did you use? Use 8.4.11 or 8.4.6, but nothing in between as they have a big memory leak.
Cheers,
Bas."

We are using Tcl 8.4.12 so this likely does
not apply as we are one patchlevel newer.
