Forum OpenACS Q&A: Competitive Analysis

Hi,

Has anyone done a competitive analysis of OpenACS vs other web app
frameworks? I'm doing some research as to determine the best
standards-based platform to use for an intranet reporting system and
would be interested to see any previous work in this area from
OpenACS'ers.

I am primarily interested in the Core packages and APIs, we need very
few of the add on packages such as bboards, etc.

Thanks!

I am looking for something like this too. The little I have found is:

http://www.zope.org/Members/tazzzzz/ACSandZope which is an older comparison of Zope and OpenACS

http://ausweb.scu.edu.au/aw02/papers/refereed/calvo/ Rafael Calvo's overview of OpenACS evaluates OpenACS against "suite of criteria" proposed by Mohammed Fayad (who has written some books on OO-frameworks) - this would be really good had there been similar articles on other frameworks - but I have not found any.

I think it is an extremely important area for newcomers to OpenACS who obviously need to justify why they have chosen this framework over so many others but I would also imagine such documentation to be of value when it comes to deciding on architecture and design of new OpenACS developments.

If you find anything please let me know (post here) - even if you don't - let me know. I would really like to make such an analysis or participate in making it.
