I want to do this:

[[Assessment Admin UI|assessment-admin]]

but the link doesn't work, XOwiki thinks its a new page.

if I do

[[assessment-admin]] it works but the link isn't "pretty".

I have run into this a few times. I think it makes sense to allow changing the link text for wiki links in XOwiki.

i believe what you want is to give a link a pretty label.
The syntax is "pageReference|Label" where the page reference is either a page name or an external page. Example: [[GN|Gustaf Neumann]]

You tried it the other way around....
