Forum OpenACS Q&A: Oracle 8.1.7 SE is missing from Oracle.com

SE = Standard edition
EE = Enterprise edtiion

The Linux version of Oracle 8.17 SE seems to no longer be
supported? Does anyone know somewhere I can download a
copy of it? http://otn.oracle.com/software/content.html doesn't
work...

Or a way to upgrade a 8.16 SE installation to 8.17?

I thought we were moving from EE to SE on OpenACS. The
installation guide only gives instructions for installing EE.

I'm not sure that Standard Edition was ever available off TechNet--I had to open a TAR and request a media kit when we went production on our site.

Unfortunately if you install the patchset that upgrades 8.1.6 standard to 8.1.7, you end up with EE.  There is a closed bug in the Oracle bug database about it, their solution was to "not use the EE features to remain in compliance with the license".  And I also think the patchsets that go from one release of 8.1.7 to another also reset the installation to "EE mode".

Definitely we need to stick to SE for OpenACS requirements.  EE is insanely priced.

If the docs still say EE please submit a ticket and/or patch in the SDM, because we only need SE.

But as CR sez ... the word is that as long as you don't actually use EE features Oracle considers you to be in compliance with their license.

I don't know what they've done with 9i in regard to linux packaging ...
