What Tom describes can also be done quite easily by making a form builder style template and just referencing it in your formtemplate tag. The advantage of this approach is that you can change the style for forms across an entire site by changing a handful of style templates (or just the "standard" one).
Of course some complex forms may still be hard to generate using the form builder/ad_form. We may want to add more widgets and form meta-commands (like "section" "info" etc) to the form templater.
