Ok, so we are ready to commit the work on head, with the suggestions given. Also, the effects can be enabled or disabled, so this can be an starting point to have multiple skins for forums.

I noticed that it's a button that the user can click.

Can the ability to turn ajax effects on or off be a parameter for the given forums instance ?

yes, is a param per instance.
