Forum OpenACS Q&A: Problem installing oacs-5-3 with PostgreSQL 8.1.5

I'm trying to install oacs-5-3 from Head with PostgreSQL 8.1.5 but the installer fails while loading the data model.

I know that there are previous posts explaining how to install oacs-5-2 with PostgreSQL 8.x, but I assumed that the new 5.3 release was ready to install out of the box.

Should I use the tarball instead of CVS HEAD? Or another PostgreSQL release? Or should I follow the tips of the cited posts?

The same thing happened to me. I also thought that the new version requiring PostgreSQL8.X (from HEAD and oacs-5-2) didn't need the changes to the postgres.conf file, but it does.

I did what the howto says and it worked fine. (I didn't create the bitfromint4 function, though)

The way OpenACS is designed the changes to the postgresql.conf are still required.

THe 5.3 release was focused on fixing all the broken automated tests so we haven't looked at if its possible to work with PostgreSQL 8 with the default install.
