I see two exemplary areas of integration for dotLRN. One would be with
regards to E-Learning / multi institution learning, offering the
possibilities to participate in lectures from various universities,
on-site and off-site, with one portal for your personal university
that combines the data from all. I know at least of one example
(business engineering at the university of applied science, technical
university and the "plain" university of Hamburg) where something like
this would come in handy.
The second integration would be with legacy systems. One example would
be the integration of the university calendar planning and printing
system, as well as the room planning systems. The first should be
obvious (why keep data stored in two different systems, independent
from each other), the second one would allow us to automatically
announce room changes from the room coordination office, without the
need of various other people to communicate these efforts.
I think you will come up with a lot more ideas. My intention was to
raise awareness to this *future* need just in case noone thought about
it (as this might have consequences for the developement and approval
of dotLRN packages/core by the TAB).
