But think of all the harm that would do to linux. Many(not most) of the people involved in linux are fighting against MS not for linux, from what I have observed. Now if MS went away there would be an enemy vacuum that would cause them to go after the other distros. I can see it now "the linux wars" with the "storm" troopers etc.
It is a good thing I use freebsd.
