The news that we have webDAV support in AOLserver now is brilliant, with or without Java. I agree with you guys that any CMS solution via the browser is ultimately a horrible hack when compared with using a desktop solution. I too have been chasing this dream of accessing the CR with desktop tools via webDAV.

I believe, though, that a C module, namely modifying mod_dav, is far more desirable than any of these approaches. The reason being that it seems mod_dav is more supported than any of the tools that have so far been mentioned and many other tools and client will probably be developed to use its features. An example is Subversion which depends heavily on mod_dav and mod_dav_svn. Unfortunately, a link that purportedly explains this is busted, but visit subversion.tigris.org and there should be some info somewhere.

nsjava, though, is a major win, and I would like to thank Dan for taking the technical challenge and delivering. It's great to see you more active Dan!
