There is a lot of good material dispersed over the web. As preliminary reading Eve Ander's
historic story will explain part of the forking of sources (Arsdigita, OpenACS, Red Hat ACS, dotLRN) and can be considered a mustread for newbees needing the context of material in order to assess its local meaning.
This is a good preliminary starting point for reading, but keep in mind its context is arsdigita (aD), not OACS.
