This is a problem Sloan faced before launch. In sum, you can't, at least not elegantly. Caroline Meeks wrote/forced a custom portlet for all users, but it is not any condition to be distributed as new code. But this is defintely something I would like to see put back into .LRN - it was functioanlity I had with our first version of SloanSpace, although I don't think it was all that pretty under the hood.
