Al: thank you for your latest comments.
Roberto: OpenForce has turned down participation in the dotLRN governance structure because we feel the difference of opinion is such that our participation wouldn't help.
Our participation in dotLRN code is a somewhat linked, but mostly separate issue. Yon and Arjun have begun the massive undertaking of seriously cleaning up (and simultaneously documenting) new-portal (even if it's soon to be part of OpenACS, it's code that emanated from the dotLRN effort). We will continue to try to answer questions about dotLRN and provide as much documentation as our time allows.
In general, we're going to continue with what we've always done: as a company, we have to worry first about client-driven work. That said, with any client-driven work we undertake, we will attempt our very best to make the product available to the community as quickly as possible. Where possible, we will also undertake our client development in an open-source fashion, where we involve the community in the development process. If these contributions fit within the dotLRN world, then surely we will work with the dotLRN governing bodies to contribute within the approved mechanisms of the dotLRN community.
I hope this helps to clarify things.
