I'd like to store external filenames in the database and use OpenFTS to index the external file content. This seems to be frequently desired. Has anyone done something like this? Are there filter packages for Linux that do some of the things INSO filters do for Oracle?
I don't want to write these alien file formats, just read them. That allows Windows people to generate .doc, .xcl, .pdfs... and I can index them, add metadata, etc. Any suggestions for how to use OpenFTS to index content from the filesystem in these common file formats?
