After much whining and gnashing of teeth, I think I finally have virtual hosting working with aolserver (3.5.1) over TCP, complete with binary file uploading. I've written up my experiences over at AOLserver Virtual Hosting with TCP

Thanks for sharing.  I'm currently considering setting up virtual hosting on my server, and your description definitely helps describe what's involved and the pro's and con's.
