Setting up OpenACS
I'm going to follow Andrew Grumet's
CVS instructions (which are now pretty difficult to get to) for setting up CVS.
mkdir cvs-workspace
cd cvs-workspace
cvs -d :pserver:anonymous@openacs.org:/cvsroot login
cvs -z3 -d :pserver:anonymous@openacs.org:/cvsroot export -r HEAD acs-core
Yes, I'm going to go with head. I figure that way I can contribute more to the project, and learn more about CVS (the hard way).
cd openacs-4/packages
Look at:
http://dev.openacs.org:8000/cvs/openacs-4/packages/?
for a list of packages.
cvs -z3 -d :pserver:anonymous@openacs.org:/cvsroot \ export -r HEAD acs-datetime acs-developer-support acs-events acs-mail-lite attachments bulk-mail calendar faq file-storage forums general-comments news notifications ref-timezones user-preferences
cvs -d /cvsweb import -m "OpenACS head 2003-02-21" openacs OpenACS Head_2003_02_21
cd ..
rm -rf openacs-4
cvs -d /cvsweb co -d ~/web/ibr openacs
I then create the reference checkout:
cvs -z3 -d :pserver:anonymous@openacs.org:/cvsroot co acs-core
mv openacs-4 cvs-anon
cd cvs-anon/packages
cvs -z3 -d :pserver:anonymous@openacs.org:/cvsroot co acs-datetime acs-developer-support acs-events acs-mail-lite attachments bulk-mail calendar faq file-storage forums general-comments news notifications ref-timezones user-preferences
Now I just need to set up another Aolserver instance to listen in on OpenACS. I look at the
documentation
.
First of all, I made sure joeuser was a part of the dba groups (he wasn't): as root: usermod -G dba,web joeuser
The only reason that was important is because this user uses both postgres and oracle.
Now create the Postgres database for the new OpenACS installation: createdb ibr
Download
openacs4.tcl.txt
into /tmp:
cd /tmp
wget https://openacs.org/doc/openacs-4/files/openacs4.tcl.txt
cp /tmp/openacs4.tcl.txt ./web/ibr/nsd.tcl
chmod 600 ~/web/ibr/nsd.tcl
emacs ~/web/ibr/nsd.tcl
/usr/local/aolserver/bin/nsd-postgres -t ~/web/ibr/nsd.tcl
It died because the log directory wasn't created.
mkdir log
Tried it again. The installer page came up. It look a long time to get to the load data model page. After going through the screens, yes it works!
