Looks like a forum bug. I clicked the Post a Message link at the top of the page when I meant to click the reply link. So my message went to a new thread, but apparently left some sort of mark on this thread, causing notifications for the next message to go out with my name.

Concerning me posting previously as Joel (two posts in different threads) I truly apologize about that mistake. It has happened before - at the social I posted as Don 😊 When I realized my mistake I updated the user_id for the forums messages in the openacs.org database but I didn't take care of the notifications (don't know how quickly they go out).

Peter, I'm not sure I understood your explanation. Do you say that you have posted as Joel, then realized your mistake, then connected to the database and manually changed the user_id in the forum messages table but not the notifications table? And that, then you did the same mistake again and followed the procedure for the "Using tDOM instead of ns_xml" thread?
