Forum OpenACS Development: User Portrait JPEG or GIF. What about PNG?

Why can't I upload my portrait in PNG format? I know that the Upload Portrait page says... "Upload your favorite file, a scanned JPEG or GIF..." but I think it could be nice also to allow PNG files.

I'm not sure if that question is better to write it as a TIP in OpenACS Improvement Proposals forum.

In that case, I have also some ideas for user portraits, for instance, to generate a thumbnail version (saving also the original file), maybe a small enough, squared version (48x48?), to include it near user name (i. ex. forums).

Is the problem in the upload or selection and delivery or both? Probably a portrait should be a separate object from an avatar to use for forums, or maybe subject to user choice.

The problem is in upload.

Isn't this solved by adding png as allowed atribute in the kernel section ( sidewide admin)

cheers

I tried (in my development server), but the /user/portait/upload-2 TCL script says...

We had a problem with your input:
    * Your image wasn't one of the acceptable MIME types: image/gif image/jpeg

but, ok, I got the idea... so I added "image/png" in "AcceptablePortraitMIMETypes" in the "User info" section and it works!

Thanks!

My first message was because even this site doesn't allow uploading png files as user portrait. May be it could be nice to check that feature for the new OpenACS release, in order to add that default value to the "AcceptablePortraitMIMETypes" parameter.

I've added this to the default allowable portrait types on cvs HEAD.
