Hi folks,

As part my work in Africa I am setting up a translation project, which will add African dialects to OACS/dotLRN. Although DotLRN is not yet beeing used in Africa, I am working on that as well. more news on that very soon.

How to add a new language? Is it enough if I build a a local language edition on my own installation's lang module and let you copy it to be included in the toolkit? or is there a more effective way?

Do ISO locales exist for the local languages you're working with? The catalog resource/language customization code in acs-lang is dependent on ISO locales.

If the answer is "no" you can invent locales that look like official ones as a first step.

Offhand I don't see any reason why we couldn't accept the catalogs you generate for these. However it would be a .LRN tech team/OCT decision in the formal sense (but why would we say no???)

How will you guarantee quality control, though? How much will be translated? (not that this is so crucial, we have many partially-translated catalog files in our CVS tree - but full translation would be best).

The is an ISO code available, and from your reply I understand it's fine if I do the work on my own server. As far quality is concerned, I will be coordinating the effort with Makerere University in Uganda
