Can you suggest a better way for us to handle contributions?
I think the process works pretty well. If you need commit privileges to the tree, you can contact Don Baccus (or any core team member) by email. They are very helpful.
This is documented on the /contribute page which is linked right from the openacs.org home page.
If you are working on a big change that affects many pages across packages, it is possible to get write access to the entire tree.
The core team is making effort to keep up with the bugs and patches from now on.
