Forum OpenACS Q&A: slightly OT - checking assumptions

I've been doing a lot of reading lately and I am getting confused over some concepts:
- tablespace --> in postgresql, if you do a 'createdb data1',  'data1' is a tablespace, is this right ?

Naw, it's a new database.  PG doesn't have tablespaces, nor any direct way to define a storage entity that functions as one.  In other words, in Oracle I can define different tablespaces on different disk spindles and scatter my tables and index files and databases among them as I please.  Can't do that in PG directly but you will be perhaps by 7.5??? There's been talk about it off and on for about three years and I think it's finally rising to the "will get done" level.
