Forum OpenACS Development: Workshop: OpenACS & AJAX - Guatemala Conference 2008

Hi all,
as you can see in the program of the next Openacs/.LRN Conference in Guatemala , there is a workshop about the integration of AJAX technology into the Openacs toolkit.

There is going to be some presentations of what people is doing regarding this topic, showing some real implementations and maybe some pieces of code :).
If you have examples of what you have done and want to present them quickly, please, lets us know.

After presentations, we would like to discuss some topics like:

- Best practices when integrating AJAX into OpenACS.
- Next steps.

Also, we would like to hear about any comments or suggestions you have regarding this, for example, what things would you like to see integrated into the toolkit?

So please post here, and we will take in consideration your suggestions for this workshop.

Hi Victor,

As you know, this past year we've been working on improving the accessibility of the tool, and there's still work to do. It would be nice to take accessibility in consideration when talking about integrating Ajax in the toolkit and how to use Ajax in an accessible way.

Thank you.

Will be nice to talk about techniques on using Ajax while making it accessible, so we continue to increase the use of Ajax in the toolkit and in the official releases.
Also, we have two other sessions:
1) .LRN Present & Future
2) OpenACS Workshop

The idea is to bring topics of interest for parties and/or for the community, so feel free to post here as well, and we expect to follow-up the discussion through the forums after the conference.

I can definitely talk bout accessibility and AJAX. I have some ideas on how to do this.
Also, it's interesting to follow what's going on at the WAI regarding the ARIA project (http://www.w3.org/TR/wai-aria/). ARIA stands for Accessible Rich Internet Applications and "...defines a way to make Web content and Web applications more accessible to people with disabilities. It especially helps with dynamic content and advanced user interface controls developed with Ajax, HTML, JavaScript, and related technologies.".

There's a news about the new WAI-ARIA documents published recently (4-feb-2008) at the WAI homepage (http://www.w3.org/WAI/).

I definitely also want to discuss accessbility in the context of making Ajax features available as part of the core toolkit.
