Forum OpenACS Q&A: Lars Blogger: How do I ping with trackback?

I emailed Lars but he asked me to post here, so shazam!

There seems to be no way with the most recent version of Lars Blogger to cause my blog to automatically ping another site and list a trackback on their web log. Is this currently possible with Lars Blogger? If so, how?

Which version of OpenACS are you using? OpenACS 5.0 version of lars-blogger should support trackback. The trackback package should be installed when you install lars-blogger.

It should automatically be sending them.

Right now there isn't any feedback in the user interface for this.

The lars-blogger version I have is installed from HEAD a few days ago. I have a "Configure Trackback" section of parameters, and a "Ping URLs" section, both of which seem to work well. The pings to weblogs.com and other sites seem work fine.

I'm referring to wanting to trackback to another blog's entry. Is there a way to tell lars-blogger to ping that site as well on a one-time, per entry basis?

For example, if I wanted this entry:
http://philsown.com/blog/one-entry?entry%5fid=1044

to do a trackback ping to sledgeblog's trackback url:
http://www.sledgeblog.com/mt-tb.cgi/829

so that a reference to my entry shows here:
http://www.sledgeblog.com/mt-tb.cgi?__mode=view&entry_id=830

How would I accomplis this? This is different than the "Ping URLs" config.

I assume that you have the EnableAutoDiscoveryAndPing parameter set to 1 in your blogger instance's parameters?

Nope, the Blogger package cannot currently let you specify Trackback URLs. This is a Missing Feature. What it does support, however, is Trackback autodiscovery.

Of course the entry you are linking to does have the Trackback autodiscovery code, and at first glance it looks correct. So please check the EnableAutoDiscoveryAndPing parameter, and if it still doesn't work please file a bug (you can assign me to it).

Yes I have EnableAutoDiscoveryAndPing set to 1. I did a test entry and it seems to be working. I did not know that's what it was for. Thanks Guan.
