I am working on a specific tutorial for OpenACS that will deal with customizing the look and feel and later functionality of OpenACS. The problem most new users have is knowing where to start. The tools are very powerful and flexible, so there are really just too many options. I hope to explain one path to take in customizing an OpenACS site.
