I like the idea of this bar appearing and then disappearing (I hate popups, nagging, and poodles, don't you?), and I like this space being limited to just that bar: put other widgets elsewhere.  But may I ask you this: as you've designed it thus far: does the space where the message bar appears remain when the bar itself disappears.  I'm hoping that this space appears only when the bar appears, with the portlets moving down, and when the bar disappears, the portlets move up.  Also, how does this bar disappear? Is it timed or can you click it away?  I'm hoping it is timed as adding this click to workload would seem to me to be unnecessary extra work.  Or?

Bruce,

- when the message bar is not present, there's no space either.

- the bar stays, but it won't be there on the next page view. It's only shown on one page view (until the next time you do something that we show a message for).
