Forum OpenACS Q&A: sendmail problem

Collapse

HI,

I have installed OpenACS a number of times but I have never had this
problem. Using RH7.1 , PG7.1, and OpenACS 3.2.5 RPMs: when posting on
the bboards the alerts page tells me there is a problem with the mail
system.<br>
<br>
<i>could not connect to "localhost:25"</i><br><br>

The last entry in the maillog is:<br><br>
<i>sendmail[1617]: starting deamon
(8.11.1): SMTP=queueing@01:00:00</i><br><br>

The server log just reports the post.

Any sysadmins out there?

have you changed and/or configured sendmail?  RedHat 7.1 binds sendmail to port 127.0.0.1 port 25, you might have to configure/reconfigure it

<i>
Expected a 250 status line; got:
501 5.5.4 ... Domain name required for sender address system</i><br><br>

anyone know how i change this? I know someone does.....

I changed the username from the original system to a legit email address and no longer get the same error. Now it is:

Expected a 250 status line; got: 550 5.7.1 ... Relaying denied

still looking for an answer.....

You'll want to check /etc/mail/access (make sure you have at least 12.0.0.1 in there, the format for /etc/mail/access is described in the top of the file).  If that does work, sendmail a bit for of the log file.  A few lines about (and if there, below) the error would be a bit more helpful.

Thank you ever so much. Another OpenACS forum success story. I added the ip address and domain to the /etc/mail/access and that did the final number. Email alerts are working. Thanks for working me through it.
