Forum OpenACS Q&A: content sections

I'm confused. The OACS Getting Started Guide makes reference to
a "content sections module", but I can't find it anywhere (i.e. not
in my cvs checkout from 11/9, not in the general package info for
OACS 3.2.5 or 4.01 on the OACS website). Is this a left-over from a
previous version & superseded by another module?
Just in case it wasn't included in the cvs last week, I tried a cvs
update today, but it hangs - is there a problem?
Thanks.

hmm... I know that the default index.tcl in 3.2.4 (and 3.2.5) tries to grab stuff from the content_sections table.  I don't know if it works now out-of-the-box; it didn't in 3.2.4.  There is also a content_sections directory under admin.  Grep for content_sections; you might also take a look at custom_sections which also references the content_sections table.

I have OACS 4.01 running, and grep for 'content-section' doesn't yield anything (and neither does 'custom-section'). Needless to say, there is nothing in the admin directory. I guess content-repository and cms completely superseded the sections...
It's kind of hard to figure out which (part of the) documentation applies to which version. I understand that maintaining docs is a hassle, but one might expect that the availability of a CMS would help 😉.

content-sections are a part of the 3.x series of [Open]ACS toolkits.
This is why you're not seeing it in OpenACS 4.  The site map
facility in OpenACS 4 allows you to mount packages at specific URLs,
and though the default index page doesn't list links to mounted
packages it's not hard to write one that will do so...
