Forum OpenACS Q&A: Moderation

I've noticed that alot of people recive notices about all these posts i'm making, Sorry for the sudden rush of messages but I have been following ACS/OpenACS for a long time but have just found time in my life to actualy become involved, and use the software.

I'm sure most people here have read Philip and Alex's guide to web publishing. In this book philip mentions that one of the problems with an online community is that moderation is costly.

Has anyone considered adding a module that incorperates the slashdot method of moderation, where the community moderates itself? I personaly like this aproch because it allows the community to guide itself, just like a real community. If the overall community doesn't like an attitude, it will simply be moderated down, so only people wishing to view unpopular posts will have to view them. At the same time this gives the person to still post good comments, and have them viewed.

We haven't talked about that in specific, but we have talked about
the need for generalized "knowledge management" tools and user
rankings of content falls is one such thing.  We've been talking
about it in a more general context than just bboards...

One OpenACS 4.x concept that you may've seen us posting about are
"service contracts", a way to glue packages together.  This fits
nicely in with the KM ideas that have been tossed about.
