Forum OpenACS Q&A: Sub Sub sites...

A strategic subsiting question:

At pps.org we use openACS for a lot of stuff, including doing Community-based planning websites for our clients. These are sites where people from a town where we're working login to discuss issues in their town and read information about the project. A good example of one of these is a site we did for Littleton, NH last year.

We have a new server running ACS 5.1 where we're doing our new development. We're about to start a new community site, and we're thinking that it will be a subsite. We're trying to decide whether a subsite of our main site, or to first make a subsite to group all future community sites. (i.e., pps.org/san_mateo vs. pps.org/projects/san_mateo) For our internal organization, the sub-subsite setup makes more sense, thinking towards the future when we will have several of these.

My question is this: are there any technical / logistical drawbacks to doing the sub-subsite setup? I'm not sure what I'm anticipating, but I have a feeling that there could be a hidden snafu waiting for us around the bend...

Thanks in advance for any advice,

Subsites should nest just fine. The only admin hassle is that members of a sub-subsite are drawn from the parent subsite. This makes sense when you think about it, as the reason you create the subsite in the first place is to partition your site (including users), as you point out in your post. Of course you may not even use the membership group features if these sub-subsites are publicly readable.
