Up for me now. And the account works fine. Maybe a DDoS attack hit them? That happened to mydomain.com a couple weeks ago. They host my DNS.

So, Lars, how is hub.org? I have been thinking about trying out one of their virtual machines. I also reached them by phone last week and some guy talked to me for half an hour. Sounds like a neat deal.

Can't say, I haven't used it. I just happened to have access to an account there.

Just to let you know that largely we have been very happy with hub.

Their service is perfectly suited to smaller db-backed sites and extremely reasonably priced (particularly given the weakness of the Canadian Dollar).

I like the arrangement they have there and their technical support is excellent. They are prepared to help with virtually anything and respond well to request for help and/or software.

Also I find their virtual server approach the best solution for shared hosting.

I would definately recommend giveing them a try if your using OpenACS 4.

Simon

I've been hosting a couple of domains using Apache / PHP and
AOLServer / OpenACS 3 with Hub for the last couple of months.
I've found them to be very, very helpful, and quick to respond to
email requests.  They will also install almost any software you
request.

Marc Fournier (who I believe is / was one of the Postgresql
developers) sent out an email which I partially quote below.

<quote>

This morning, user support at Rackspace reported a problem
with accessing our server based on their monitoring software.
After investigating, it was determined that the problem was that
the operating system had run out of required buffers for the
network interface, which required a reboot.

In order to avoid this happening again in the future, we raised
the number of buffers available, which we hope will prevent this
from happening in the future.

I would definitely recommend them as a great host for budget
conscious OpenACS (or other) developers.  I've asked why they
haven't advertised a bit more on openacs.org, and been given
the response "we don't like to blow our own trumpets" (or words
to that effect).  Helpful, modest, and considerate.

Yes, I concur, they are very helpful and responsive to emails.  They had some problems at their old colo site but it looks like Rackspace is working out well for them.

<p>They also offer full root access to your virtual machine now.  See <a href="http://www.hub.org/vRoot.php">http://www.hub.org/vRoot.php</a>.</p>
