Forum OpenACS Q&A: CVS down?

Collapse

Hi,

I'm trying to reach the OpenACS CVS via pserver (anonymous login) and via http since yesterday but it seems to be down.

Is there any problem or is it under maintenance?

It is currently under maintenance and we will figure out during the OCT meeting how to best get it up again.

Version 5.1.5 is also missing in the repository. Is this also under maintenance?

Is there a way to download packages, so that I don't have to install from repository everytime I setup an OpenACS 5.1.x instance?

There are two things going on ...

1. The machine got hacked into due to a volunteer's computer being compromised, a keystroke sniffer catching the volunteer's password when they logged into the cvs server, and the volunteer being a SUDO user on the box.

2. The Sisks have moved to Portland, Oregon and are in the process of moving servers from the east to west coast.

MIke has donated a server for us to use for CVS. He's set up accounts for Jeff and I (as of yesterday afternoon) and has restored backups. I intend to poke around on the box this afternoon (my time, and it's already afternoon :)

He'll be going back east in a couple weeks, at which time we'll move the openacs.org site to the west coast server. After Mike transports the rest of their machines from the east to west coast we'll have two donated servers for the project again (thanks, Mike and Janine!), one for the web site, one for CVS.

There will be some DNS propagation delays and the like that may make service flakey for a few hours or a day or so but other than that, hopefully things will be smooth. Oh, I imagine we'll take down openacs.org for awhile to make a PG dump and move content to the interim box, then once again to the new server once it arrives on the west coast.

Ok. That's good news, I mean, that it will be back up soon :). Thanks all for the hard work.

Everything seems to be working again.

The CVS key has changed, right?

Should I change my password in CVS?

Is there another forum post ow URL explaining what CVS users should do?

If you were using your public key to access the site, it should work now (it was turned off until earlier today).

If you're using password access, you need to e-mail or IRC me, dave bauer or jeff davis to get a new password. We're setting them up as people request them.

Now that it's back up...Can someone remind me of the name of the website repository? (i.e. what do I need to get to get the current openacs.org website content and packages?)

I normally just browse it via the web at cvs.openacs.org/cvs, but that doesn't seem to be working, or I'm going to the wrong place.

Thanks!

The cvs browser is a separate app, and I see on IRC that the guys are still working on getting it started. Those links on the Packages page will be working Real Soon Now. 😉

Here's the explanation for why the cvs browser is still down.
