Forum OpenACS Q&A: Anybody thought of P2P for ACS?

Perhaps, by mating the search engine of each ACS community with something like JXTA search so a search in one ACS community can then spawn parallel queries in other related ACS communities, hopefully, resulting in a more dynamic ACS community network...

Say, in the Greenpeace example, they can tie in other ACS-based sites, both Greenpeace and other NGOs, and they can automatically, cross-search each other.

Just a thought...

I think the problem with applying p2p to most openACS sites is that the communities aren't really distributed.  Since you can host multiple separate-but-related communities on the same instance (ie greenpeace),  and easily search across them,  how likely is it that the overhead of JUXTA will pay off?

There *are* some db items that cut across sites that I'd love to see a p2p search approach for: job boards/classified ads/academic journals.  But, I don't think the concept applies to OpenACS sites in general.
