yes, it works with 5.2.*, but it is not part of 5.2.
2) If so, how can this be tracked with cvs in a 5.2 installation?
check out xotcl-core and xowiki from cvs head, this will work with your oacs 5.2 installation. you will need xotcl 1.3.9 as well, as described various times.
3) Does this depend on .lrn features?
no. i am using the selva theme, because it is so pretty. xowiki can be mounted at the site map at various places, it creates a folder for each instance in the content repository. If dotlrn is installed, it will make use of community_ids as well.
