I think the mixed CSS and tables are adding an extra layer of complexity to the formatting behavior. For example, "float" causing the overlapping mentioned above. I'm combining the CSS behavior that modifies the tables into the tables directly, for example, putting the width% into the table tags.. and will create a few more CSS classes to help bring consistency to the overall look of text between browsers...
