Forum .LRN Q&A: Experiences with Assessment package

Currently we (Jesús G. Boticario and I) are heading Ph.D works on machine learning gathering data from experiences with dotLRN. Some works deal with using packages as they are, and others imply some development to enrich dotLRN functionality.

There is a group of people from Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja (Equator) who are working with the Assessment package. They are having problems to generate valid QTI files to be imported to Assessment package and to find the scores in the data base. They will be reporting in detail the problems they are encountering to get support and feedback from Assessment package developers. On the other side, the experiences and developments done will be shared with dotLRN community when they are finished.

Moreover, I raise a few questions that we could start answering: Who has experiences with QTI Authoring Tools? Which could be recommended? Why? Who is using Assessment package? What for? Strenghts? Weakness? What improvements are needed?

Hi Olga!

In the University of Valencia we use Respondus to carry out test in format IMS QTI and to import them to assessment.

The URL of help pages is:
http://pizarra.uv.es/global/HELP/manualrespondus/respondus.htm
In this link your donwload one example
http://www.uv.es/avirtual/Ejemplo_test_respuestas_alternativas.zip.

Recently we have found a software open source that exports in format QTI (http://www.tecn.upf.es/gti/leteos/newnavs/jqtilite.html) but not work with assessment.

Greetings

Hi Dario

In the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja, we are working with respondus for create tests in format IMS QTI and we import them in the assessment package, but we have a problem because it not save the evaluation's percent score in the table "as_sessions" and neither the section's points.

Or this values are saved in other table?

If you know something about it, please help me.

Greetings

Martha,

are you able to see the individual question points/score?

I am wondering if this is an IMS QTI import problem or just a display issue (or maybe both).

I have noticed that individual questions show points and that the section does not show them correctly. We will fix that over the next few days.

Please post any assessment bugs you find in the OpenACS bug tracker. We will be fixing this in .LRN 2.2.b1 for the next release iteration (so please test that version if possible).

We will also be checking and updating the feedback portions as we go (noticed some problems with that too).
